The Six Mile Cemetery Headstone Project was started in order to place permanent markers on some of the graves that still have temporary markers and have been weathered beyond recognition. We recently installed two headstones. They were two different types as we wanted to try different options to see what the best value is. These are not large headstones, but they get the job done and are permanent.
These are not large stones, and are smaller than a sheet of paper. They are mounted to a rectangle piece of rock. However they are inexpensive and an easy way to at least have these graves marked permanently. We would love to purchase bigger headstones, but they cost between $250 and $350 and that is just not feasible at this time.
If you would like to help us in this project, you may donate and just let us know your donation is for the headstone project!
The first marker was for James V Ratliff. The temporary marker was still the one from the funeral home in 1942! So, although it took 74 years, I think the family would be happy to see something placed in remembrance.
The second was for Bennie Brannan and is a much thicker stone and I think the marker we will use going forward.
